Carbon steels are steels containing carbon as the chief alloying element. These steels contain aluminium, chromium, copper, nickel, and molybdenum in small quantities. They also contain 0.4% of silicon and 1.2% of manganese. Impurities such as phosphorous and sulfur are also present in these steels.
